Traditional Aesthetic with Modern Performance

Lead Oxidation & Natural Patina

Natural silver lead is a raw metal alloy that reacts with the atmosphere over time. After installation, the initially bright finish will gradually oxidise, forming a soft grey patina.

During this natural process, you may notice:

• Temporary discolouration with varying tones
• Spotting or white powdery deposits, especially after rainfall

This is completely normal and part of the ageing process of real lead.

Deposits can be gently wiped away if required. However, polishing should be avoided, as it will restart the oxidation process. Over time, the lead will settle into its consistent, traditional grey finish. The speed of this process will vary depending on environmental conditions such as weather exposure and location.

Antique Lead Finish

For a more uniform appearance from day one, we offer an antique lead option. This features a specialist coating that provides a pre-aged dark grey finish at installation.

Unlike natural silver lead, antique lead:

• Maintains a consistent colour
• Does not oxidise in the same way
• Requires less visual adjustment over time
