Coatings

Low-E coatings (technically referred to as passive low-e coatings) work by allowing solar radiation to pass through the glass while reflecting internal heat into the room. This helps retain warmth generated within the home, reducing reliance on heating systems, improving energy efficiency, and lowering energy bills.

These coatings are applied during the glass manufacturing process and are typically positioned on the internal surfaces within a sealed glazing unit to protect the coating and maximise long-term performance.

Soft Coat

Soft coat Low-E is applied to cooled glass using a magnetron coating process. This results in a highly efficient, multi-layered coating that delivers superior thermal performance.

Due to its delicate nature, the coating is removed along the perimeter of the glass (a process known as edge deletion). This ensures a strong bond between the glass and the glazing sealant, supporting the longevity and performance of the sealed unit.

Softcoat glass is now the minimum performance Low-E coating used in the UK market. It significantly outperforms older hardcoat alternatives in thermal insulation, which have become obsolete in modern high-performance windows

At Regency Glass, we use softcoat Low-E technology. Our standard rg softcoat glass achieves a U-value of 1.2 W/m²K, while our premium rg one glass offers enhanced performance with a U-value of 1.0 W/m²K when used in a double-glazed units. Lower U-values are achievable with triple glazing.
